Title:
PRR Eastbound Deadheads, c. 1946
Description:
Baera HC. Here is the twelfth of twelve original photos by an unidentified photographer that were taken at the Horseshoe Curve near Altoona, Pennsylvania, c. 1946. Shown here (R to L) is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #4421 and another locomotive whose road number is not recorded. Both are I-1SA (2-10-0) "Decapods." #4421 was built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works as an I-1S during April of 1923, rebuilt in Juniata as an I-1SA in February of 1943, and retired in November of 1953 after 30 years of faithful service. In this context, they're returning to Altoona for yet another helper/pusher run up "The Mountain." (Track 4)
