Description:  Byerly. Here is a duplicate 35mm color slide via Fred Byerly that was taken at Sunnyside Yard in Long Island City, New York, in 1961. The photographer is not identified. Photo Caption: "Pennsylvania No. 5940, Class L-6A, Sunnyside, L.I., N.Y., 1961." PRR engine #5940 is an L-6A (1-D-1) boxcab built by Lima-Westinghouse during May of 1934, rated at 2,500 horsepower, renumbered "4791" in preparation for the PRR-NYC merger, and retired in April of 1968 after 34 years of faithful service. This photo comes from a color slide set entitled "Electric Railroading ~ Penn Central and Pennsylvania Lines" that's produced and distributed by Blackhawk Films of Davenport, Iowa (868-29).

Description:  Marianchuk. Here is an original photo of (L to R) Pennsylvania Railroad engines #7851 and #7850. Both are O-1 (2-B-2) electrics built in Juniata and rated at 2,000 horsepower each. #7851 was constructed in June of 1930 and retired in June of 1948, while #7850 was built in July of 1930 and retired in February of 1948. The photographer's name, the exact date, and the location are not recorded.

Description:  Here is page three of an 11-page cover article by Frederick Westing entitled "The Locomotive That Made Penn Station Possible." It was published originally in the October 1956 issue of "Trains" magazine, page 30. Center Photo, Partial Caption: "DD-1 ancestor that forecast her wheel arrangement was No. 10003, a gearless quill drive 4-4-0." Boxcab #10003 was built by Baldwin-Westinghouse in April of 1907 and rated at 750 horsepower. Bottom Photo, Partial Caption: "After the DD-1 Pennsy experimented with jackshaft, side-rodded, steeple-cab units of class L-5." Shown here is PRR engine #3930, an L-5 (1-B-B-1) electric built in Juniata during January of 1924, rated at 3,300 horsepower, and retired in May of 1944.
